Karnataka Yuva Nidhi Scheme: Monthly Allowance for Unemployed Graduates and Diploma Holders

Who qualifies, what you get, which documents you need, and how to apply online or offline.

Finishing a degree or diploma is a big achievement, but the months after results can be uncertain while you search for a job. The Karnataka Government’s Yuva Nidhi Scheme, launched in 2023, offers educated unemployed youth a monthly allowance to ease that period. This post covers the benefits, eligibility rules, documents, the application process, and an important pre-check you should not skip.

What Is the Karnataka Yuva Nidhi Scheme?

Yuva Nidhi is an unemployment allowance scheme run by the Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, Karnataka. Eligible unemployed graduates receive Rs 3,000 per month, and eligible unemployed diploma holders receive Rs 1,500 per month. The money is paid directly into the beneficiary’s bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The idea is to support young people financially while they look for work or explore self-employment.

  • Not be self-employed, including through a government or bank self-employment loan scheme.
  • Not be receiving an apprenticeship stipend or benefits under a similar central or state scheme.
  • Hold a valid Aadhaar number and have valid bank account details.
  • Have a degree or diploma registration number, with your certificate available through DigiLocker.

Gender-minority applicants who meet these conditions can also apply.

Documents You Will Need

  • Aadhaar card
  • Degree or diploma certificate
  • Degree or diploma registration number
  • Certificate available on DigiLocker
  • Karnataka domicile or residency certificate issued by the Revenue Department
  • Study certificate from the university, where applicable

Step Zero: Check Your NAD Records

Before you apply, make sure your degree or diploma certificate is available on the Karnataka National Academic Depository (NAD) portal through DigiLocker. The department uses this to verify your qualification, and an application can get stuck if your record is missing.

  1. Visit the Karnataka NAD portal at nad.karnataka.gov.in.
  2. Click on Yuva Nidhi Scheme on the home page.
  3. Click Check your NAD records.
  4. Select your university and enter your registration number.
  5. Click Send to see whether your records are available.
  6. If they are not found, ask your university or board to upload your certificate to NAD.
  7. Sign in to DigiLocker with your Aadhaar number or Aadhaar-linked mobile number, or create an account.
  8. Confirm that your degree or diploma certificate appears in your DigiLocker account.

If you would rather not apply online, visit the nearest Karnataka One, Bangalore One, Grama One, or Bapuji Seva Kendra. You can also contact your District Employment Exchange Office to ask whether the offline form is available. Collect and fill in the form, attach copies of your Aadhaar, degree or diploma certificate, domicile or residency certificate, and bank details, then submit it at the centre. Complete the verification and self-declaration steps the officials ask for, and collect your acknowledgement or reference number.

After You Apply

The concerned department verifies your application before approving the allowance. You can check your application status using your reference number. Beneficiaries must keep meeting the scheme conditions and submit the prescribed unemployment self-declaration to continue receiving the allowance.

Tips for a Smooth Application

  • Check NAD and DigiLocker first. A missing certificate is the most common hurdle.
  • Make sure your bank account is Aadhaar-seeded so DBT payments reach you.
  • Count your 180 days. You must have been unemployed for at least six months after your results were declared.
  • Keep your reference number safe for tracking.
  • Tell the department when your situation changes. Once you get a job or start self-employment, the allowance ends.
  • Use official portals only. Do not pay agents to apply for you.
