Karnataka Sir C.V. Raman Scholarship Scheme: Rs 5,000 a Year for Bright B.Sc. Students

Eligibility, renewal rules, documents, and how to apply for this merit-based science scholarship.

India needs more young people who choose science and stick with it. To encourage bright students to take up a B.Sc. degree, the Karnataka Government offers the Sir C.V. Raman Scholarship. If you have just entered the first year of a B.Sc. in a government or aided college, this scholarship can support you through all three years of your degree. This post covers the benefits, eligibility, renewal conditions, documents, and application steps.

What Is the Sir C.V. Raman Scholarship?

The scheme is run by the Department of Collegiate Education (DCE), Karnataka. Its official name is “Scholarship to Encourage Bright Students to Study Science at Degree Level (Sir C.V. Raman Scholarship)”. It was introduced in 2001-02 and continues to support science students in government and aided colleges under the department.

The goal is to motivate students who did well in their earlier exams to pick basic science subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, and Geology, and to stay focused until they finish the degree.

If a beneficiary leaves college midway or has insufficient attendance, the college recovers the full scholarship amount from the student before issuing the Transfer Certificate. The college deposits that money with the government through challan. If the college fails to recover it, the department recovers the amount from the college Principal. In short, take the scholarship only if you plan to complete the course and attend regularly.
