Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekanand Yuva Protsahan Yojana: Benefits, Eligibility and How to Join

The Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekanand Yuva Protsahan Yojana is a youth development scheme launched by the Government of Chhattisgarh on 20 June 2013. Run by the Panchayat and Rural Development Department, it aims to build positive thinking, creativity and leadership among rural youth and to involve them in village development and local governance.

Not a Cash Scheme

This scheme focuses on training, leadership and community activities. It does not provide direct monthly cash assistance to individuals. Youth looking for financial support for self-employment can explore the separate Chhattisgarh Udhyam Kranti Yojana.

Key Benefits

  • Encourages young people to take part in village development and local governance
  • Builds leadership, teamwork, organisational skills and personality
  • Supports cultural programmes, sports, yoga, education, health, environment and sanitation activities
  • Raises awareness against addiction, superstition and other social evils
  • Involves youth in community service, disaster response and training on modern farming methods

Activities Organised

  • Cultural: youth festivals at block and sub-block levels, folk music, dance and drama competitions, and training camps
  • Leadership and capacity building: creative leadership camps for Yuva Mandal representatives, life-skills workshops for adolescent girls, and workshops on managing voluntary community work
  • Environment and health: tree plantation, blood donation camps, sanitation and literacy campaigns, vaccination drives
  • Yoga and sports: yoga camps, volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, athletics and swimming events, and practice camps for selected athletes
  • Other: organic farming and modern agriculture workshops, volunteer mobilisation during floods, fires and epidemics, and anti-addiction and anti-superstition rallies

In practice, the scheme has also funded employment fairs, open-gym equipment at government schools, bamboo-craft and mushroom-production training, kabaddi tournaments and army-recruitment pre-training camps.

How It Works

Each Janpad Panchayat runs a Yuva Protsahan Kendra (Youth Promotion Centre) to support youth training and activities. Reported funding is an annual grant of around ₹6 lakh per Janpad Panchayat. Gram Panchayat-level Yuva Mandals (youth groups) take part in the activities, and Janpad Panchayats plan and coordinate them.

Who Can Join?

  • Rural youth of Chhattisgarh aged 15 to 35 years
  • Members of a registered Gram Panchayat-level Yuva Mandal, or youth not yet in one, who can register directly
  • Those willing to take part in training, cultural, sports and community activities
  • Urban youth are not covered
  • No income limit is mentioned
