Assam Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu Scheme: Up to ₹20,000 a Year for Male UG and PG Students

Assam’s Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu Aasoni gives male students from economically weaker families a monthly cash incentive so they can continue their higher education without financial pressure. Undergraduate students get ₹1,000 a month and postgraduate students get ₹2,000 a month.

What is the scheme?

The Higher Education Department introduced the scheme for the 2025-26 academic year. It complements the existing Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina Aasoni, which supports girl students, and aims to improve enrolment, retention and the Gross Enrolment Ratio among boys from vulnerable households.

It first covered only UG 1st Year and PG 1st Year students. It was later widened to include UG 2nd Year and PG 2nd Year students too.

Latest update: The Government of Assam released the October instalment on 15 October 2026. According to reports, 1,02,501 male students benefit from it, with ₹10.37 crore allocated. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also announced plans to expand the scheme to more universities, so watch for official announcements from the Higher Education Department.
