Pradhan Mantri Divyangjan Pension Yojana: ₹375 a Month for Persons with Disabilities, Now from Birth
Pradhan Mantri Divyangjan Pension Yojana is the central government’s monthly pension for persons with disabilities from poor households. It is the renamed Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS), and the October 2026 Cabinet decision raised the pension, lowered the disability threshold and removed the minimum age.
What is the scheme?
The scheme provides monthly financial assistance to eligible persons with disabilities from economically weaker households. It began in 2009 and was renamed in 2026. On 14 October 2026, the Union Cabinet approved renaming the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) as Pradhan Mantri Samajik Sahayata Yojana and extending it for five years, from 2026-27 to 2030-31, with an outlay of ₹53,428 crore.
The Ministry of Rural Development administers the scheme. State and UT administrations handle identifying beneficiaries, verifying applications and paying the pension. The continued programme is expected to benefit about 3.20 crore people across 36 States and UTs.
