West Bengal Krishak Bandhu Scheme: Benefits, Eligibility and How to Apply

The Krishak Bandhu Scheme is one of West Bengal’s flagship farmer welfare programmes. It gives farmers and sharecroppers assured income support and a social security cover for their families.

What Is the Krishak Bandhu Scheme?

Launched on 1 January 2019 by the Government of West Bengal, the scheme provides direct financial assistance to ease the financial burden on farmers and support their agricultural activities. The Department of Agriculture is the nodal department, responsible for verification, approval and payment. The nodal bank is the West Bengal State Co-operative Bank Limited.

Latest Update: Renaming of the Scheme

On 28 October 2026, after a Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that the Krishak Bandhu Scheme will be renamed the Mukhyamantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme. The government also announced an additional ₹3,000 per year for eligible farmers who receive PM-KISAN benefits. This will be paid in two instalments through DBT.

However, the government has not yet clarified whether the existing benefits, including the annual cultivation assistance and the ₹2 lakh death benefit, will continue under the new name. Farmers should wait for the official notification before assuming any change.
