AICTE Pragati Scholarship Scheme 2026-27: The Complete Guide for Girl Students in Technical Education

Rs 50,000 a year, 10,000 scholarships, and a full walkthrough of eligibility, documents, selection, state-wise seats, renewal, and the 2026-27 schedule.

Engineering, pharmacy, architecture, management, and technology are still fields where women are under-represented. Cost is one of the reasons many capable girls hesitate to enrol. The Pragati Scholarship Scheme, run by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) under the Ministry of Education, is designed to change that by giving girl students Rs 50,000 every year to support their technical Degree or Diploma. This guide covers everything you need to know for the 2026-27 cycle.

What Is the Pragati Scholarship Scheme?

Pragati is a central government scholarship programme implemented by AICTE for girl students pursuing technical education in India. It aims to encourage more girls to enrol in technical Degree and Diploma courses and to reduce the financial burden on their families, in line with the government’s goal of increasing women’s participation in technical and professional education.

Eligible girl students in AICTE-approved institutions receive Rs 50,000 per year, paid directly into their bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The money can go toward tuition fees, books, stationery, software, laboratory equipment, study materials, and the purchase of a computer.

Every year, AICTE awards 10,000 scholarships: 5,000 for Degree students and 5,000 for Diploma students. On top of these, all eligible applicants from selected North-Eastern states and Union Territories are considered for the scholarship, which helps widen access in underserved regions.

How Selection Works

Selection is purely on merit in the qualifying examination. AICTE prepares separate state-wise merit lists for Degree and Diploma courses, according to the number of scholarship seats allocated to each State and Union Territory. Reservation benefits follow Government of India norms.

For Technical Degree Courses

  1. Merit is based on marks in the 10+2 or equivalent examination.
  2. A state-wise merit list is prepared according to each state’s seat allocation.
  3. If two candidates have the same marks, the one with higher Class 10 marks gets preference.
  4. If the tie continues, the older candidate ranks higher.

For Technical Diploma Courses

  1. Merit is based on marks in the qualifying examination used for admission to the Diploma programme, and Class 10 marks are considered.
  2. A separate state-wise merit list is prepared.
  3. If two candidates have the same marks, the older candidate gets priority.
  4. If the tie remains, the candidate with lower annual family income ranks higher.

The provisional merit list of selected students is published on the AICTE website. If your course uses a CGPA, it is converted to a percentage using the formula CGPA x 9.5.

State-Wise Distribution of Seats

AICTE allocates seats among states and Union Territories in proportion to the approved technical seats available in each. Of the total, 5,000 are for Degree courses and 5,000 for Diploma courses.

How to Renew Your Scholarship

Beneficiaries must submit a renewal application on the NSP every academic year. You will need the promotion certificate (Appendix-IV) and your usual supporting documents. Students who fail, discontinue, or drop out of the course lose their scholarship benefits.

Important Rules to Remember

  • No double benefits. The scholarship cannot be held with any other scholarship or financial assistance scheme.
  • Two daughters per family. A family can claim the scholarship for a maximum of two girl children.
  • Admission gap. The gap between the qualifying examination and admission must not exceed two years.
  • Renew every year. Missing the renewal window can end your benefits.
  • Verification matters. Applications unverified by the institution or the state authorities are not considered.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Waiting for the last date. Portals slow down near deadlines, and last-minute errors are hard to fix.
  • Uploading unclear documents. Blurry certificates or wrong file sizes can lead to defects.
  • Wrong bank details. An incorrect account number or IFSC code can delay or block payment. Make sure the account is Aadhaar-linked.
  • Forgetting the parent declaration and the Appendix forms, which are required for the application.
  • Ignoring the defect window. If your application is marked defective, fix it before the correction deadline, otherwise it can be rejected.
  • Taking another scholarship while receiving Pragati.

Tips to Improve Your Chances

  • Check your state’s seat count before you apply, so you understand how competitive the merit list is.
  • Keep your marks documents handy. Selection depends on 10+2 marks for Degree and Class 10 marks for Diploma.
  • Get your income certificate early. It must be issued by the competent authority and reflect income from all sources.
  • Follow up with your institution to make sure it completes verification on time.
  • Save your acknowledgement receipt and Application ID for tracking and renewal.
  • Watch for updates on the NSP and AICTE websites, since dates are announced each year.
