MANAGE Internship Programme: A Complete Guide for Agriculture Postgraduates

Hands-on research and agri-startup experience at the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management, Hyderabad

For students who want a career in agricultural research, rural development or agribusiness, practical experience matters almost as much as the degree. The MANAGE Internship Programme gives eligible postgraduate and Ph.D. students a chance to work inside a national institute on real extension, research and entrepreneurship projects. This guide explains the different internship tracks, who can apply, what the documents and process look like, and what to verify before you apply.

What Is the MANAGE Internship Programme?

The programme is offered by the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, based in Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, Telangana.

It includes a general agricultural extension internship and specialised tracks run through MANAGE centres. The general programme focuses on agricultural extension and rural studies. The MANAGE Centre for Innovation and Agripreneurship (MANAGE-CIA) adds exposure to agri-startup incubation, entrepreneurship development, stakeholder engagement, startup case studies, webinars and digital outreach.

Interns build research, documentation, communication and project-management skills.

The general internship notice listed a deadline of 25 September 2026, which has already passed. Check the latest official announcement before you prepare an application.

  • Under the older guidelines, a minimum OGPA of 8.0 out of 10 (equivalent to 80%) is required.

MANAGE-CIA Internship

Those looking for practical training at the undergraduate level can explore the Student READY Scheme, which supports practical training, industry exposure and entrepreneurship awareness for agriculture and allied-discipline students.

What Interns Actually Do

The work depends on your track and specialisation.

  • General internship: Conduct research on agricultural extension, rural development and farmers’ issues, and prepare research reports or discussion papers on your topic.
  • MANAGE-CIA: Organise agricultural stakeholder programmes, support pre-incubation and Agri-Eureka activities, document agri-startup case studies, examine the impact of incubation centres and startups, prepare digital content for online platforms, support the Saturday Webinar Series, and contribute to incubation modules and research documentation.
  • MANAGE-FISHub: Support fisheries startup activities, document startup journeys, and contribute to webinars and aquapreneurship initiatives.

Exact responsibilities are assigned by MANAGE. Previous internship reports and experience notes are a good way to see what past interns did.

How Selection Works

  • General internship: You submit the application with your research proposal, CV, motivation letter and recommendation letter. The available application page does not describe a complete, formal selection procedure.
  • MANAGE-CIA: Applications are screened, shortlisted candidates are interviewed online, and the top six candidates are selected based on interview performance.
  • MANAGE-FISHub: Candidates submit a one-page CV, applications are screened, shortlisted candidates have an online interview, and six candidates are selected.

Tips for a Stronger Application

  • Match your track to your specialisation. The general internship and MANAGE-CIA draw on different fields, so apply where your background fits.
  • Treat the research proposal seriously. For the general internship, a focused two-page proposal with a clear title, objectives and methodology shows you have thought through a real study.
  • Make your SoP specific. For MANAGE-CIA, say what you want to learn and what you can contribute to the agri-startup ecosystem, rather than describing your interest in general terms.
  • Start the attestations early. The attested CV and motivation letter need signatures from your Chairman or Adviser and Head of Department, which can take time.
  • Read past intern notes. They show the kind of topics and outputs MANAGE values.
