Madhya Pradesh Mukhyamantri Kaushalya Yojana: Free, Job-Linked Skill Training for Women

Many women in Madhya Pradesh have the will to work but lack a recognised skill, a certificate, or a way into a job. The Mukhyamantri Kaushalya Yojana (MMKY) was started by the Madhya Pradesh Government to address this. It is a skill development scheme that runs only for women, and it is implemented by the Madhya Pradesh State Skill Development and Employment Generation Board (MPSSDEGB).

What the scheme offers

The State Government funds the scheme fully, so training is completely free for the woman who enrols. Courses follow national standards and usually run from 15 days to 9 months, which is about 100 to 1,200 hours depending on the trade.

When you finish and pass the assessment, the relevant Sector Skill Council issues an NSQF-aligned certificate. This certificate is valid for jobs in India and abroad.

The scheme covers 14 sectors: apparel, automotive, beauty and wellness, capital goods, construction, domestic worker, electronics and hardware, food processing, healthcare, IT and ITES, retail, security, tourism and hospitality, and banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI). Women can also train in fields where their presence has been low, such as automotive, construction, electronics and security.

Who it is for

The scheme focuses on women who left formal education, women who want skills for a job or self-employment, women who want to upgrade skills they already have, working women who want their informal skills formally certified, and women from Naxal-affected areas, who can receive residential training.

Who can apply

Only women can apply, and the applicant must be at least 15 years old. She must meet the minimum educational qualification for the course she chooses, and she must have a valid Aadhaar number for registration.

Documents to keep ready

Keep your Aadhaar card, educational qualification certificate, residence certificate and income certificate ready. A caste certificate is needed only for reserved-category applicants, and a disability certificate only for applicants with disabilities.

How to apply

Applications are made online through the Madhya Pradesh Skill Development Portal. One important point: at the time of the source information, the authorities had not officially released a fresh application window for 2026. You can prepare now and register once the official circular is out or the registration window opens.

The registration steps are as follows. Visit the official portal and choose the option to register a new candidate profile. Fill in the profile form and submit it. You will receive a username and password on your registered mobile number and email ID. Log in, verify your mobile number and email ID with the OTPs you receive, then enter your Aadhaar number and complete Aadhaar authentication. Fill in the remaining details, finish the registration, and download or print the receipt for future reference.

How selection and training work

After registering, choose a course and check the minimum qualification it requires. Training institutions select candidates online on the basis of merit, according to the qualification each course demands. Selected candidates report to the allotted training centre and submit photocopies of their Aadhaar card, Voter ID, caste certificate and educational certificate at admission. You then attend the full course, appear in the end-of-course assessment, and receive your certificate after passing.

Where the training happens

Three kinds of institutions run the courses. Government institutions include ITIs, skill development centres, polytechnics, engineering colleges, agricultural engineering colleges and colleges of the Higher Education Department. Semi-government providers include CRISP, IGTR, NIFT, ATDC and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited. Experienced private training providers affiliated with a Sector Skill Council can also take part.

What happens after training

The scheme is built around jobs, not just classes. At least 70% of all trained women must be linked to wage employment or self-employment. In a wage job, a trainee must earn at least the minimum wage for semi-skilled workers in Madhya Pradesh within three months of completing training.

An honest note here: the 70% condition applies to the training programme as a whole. It does not guarantee a job to every individual trainee.

For government institutions, MPSSDEGB and the Rozgar Nirman Board handle placement and monitor trainees afterwards. NSDC-affiliated providers track trained women for three months to see whether they remain in gainful employment or run their business profitably. Providers also update each trainee’s status and income on the portal at fixed intervals.

Support for starting your own work

If you want self-employment rather than a job, the scheme has support for that too. MPSSDEGB has set up an Entrepreneurship Development Cell and prepared Detailed Project Reports for different self-employment activities. Interested trainees receive special training, and providers file applications under self-employment schemes at District Level Bankers’ Committee meetings. For self-employment, the provider submits the enterprise registration certificate, and if a trainee gets a government-scheme loan, the sanction letter and bank account details serve as proof of income.

No stipend or cash transfer

Women should know that MMKY gives no stipend and no DBT cash amount to trainees. The benefit is the free, certified training itself. Instead, the government pays non-government training institutions in four result-based instalments: 30% after the batch starts, 30% after the training period ends with the required attendance, 20% after at least 70% of examinees are certified, and 20% after at least 70% of certified trainees hold continuous employment for three months. This structure gives providers a reason to deliver results.

A related scheme for youth

The same board also runs the Mukhyamantri Kaushal Samvardhan Yojana (MMKSY), which offers similar free, NSQF-aligned training to both young men and women, with a target of 2.50 lakh youth every year from 2017-18. MMKY has a target of training 2 lakh women every year from the same year.
