Kera Suraksha Insurance Scheme (KSIS): Benefits, Eligibility and How to Apply

Climbing coconut trees, harvesting nuts and tapping Neera involve real risk of injury, disability or death. The Kera Suraksha Insurance Scheme (KSIS) offers personal accident insurance to coconut tree climbers and other eligible coconut-sector workers. It is implemented by the Coconut Development Board (CDB), an autonomous statutory body under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, which coordinates with an insurance company to provide the cover.

A Note on Benefit Figures

The established coverage was ₹5 lakh for accidental death or permanent total disability, with hospitalisation expenses up to ₹1 lakh. A revised structure reported from 15 August 2025 raises this to ₹7 lakh. The CDB’s older published information still shows the earlier figures, so confirm the current benefits and policy conditions with the Board before applying or claiming.

Who Is Covered?

  • Coconut tree climbers, harvesters and Neera technicians
  • Eligible trainees under the Board’s Friends of Coconut Tree (FoCT) and Neera Technician training programmes
  • Coconut hybridisation workers and other specified coconut-sector workers
