Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana

Many poor families see a daughter’s marriage as a heavy financial burden, which often pushes them to marry girls off early. The Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana, run by the Department of Women, Child Development and Social Security, Government of Jharkhand, gives eligible daughters ₹30,000 at the time of marriage. The scheme aims to empower women economically and to discourage child marriage and dowry.

Key Benefits

  • One-time assistance of ₹30,000 per eligible girl
  • Money goes directly into the bride’s own savings account (via ABPS, NEFT, RTGS, or PFMS)
  • Compulsory marriage registration discourages underage marriage
  • Families must declare that no dowry was given
  • Widows who remarry can also apply

Who Can Apply?

  • The girl must belong to a family living below the poverty line in Jharkhand
  • The girl, her mother, or her father must hold a Jharkhand AAY (yellow), PHH (pink), or K-Oil (white) ration card
  • The girl’s name must be in the Jharkhand voter list
  • The girl must have an Aadhaar card
  • The marriage must be registered
  • The application must reach the office within one year of marriage

Remarriage is not covered, except for widow remarriage. Orphan girls and former observation home residents do not need a ration card, but must submit a Child Welfare Committee certificate.

Who Is Not Eligible?

A family is excluded if it falls under any of the 14 exclusion criteria, including:

  • Owning a motor vehicle or fishing boat
  • Having a government employee in the family
  • Any member earning more than ₹10,000 per month
  • Paying income tax or professional tax
  • Owning a refrigerator or landline phone
  • Living in a pucca house with three or more rooms
  • Owning land above the prescribed limits, or a Kisan Credit Card with a limit above ₹50,000

Check the official guidelines for the complete list.
