Why This Certification Is Now Mandatory
Training for BC Agents became compulsory under IBA letter No. SB/MBR/BC/0742, dated 05.01.2024. To simplify the course content, IIBF split the syllabus into two separate, mutually exclusive levels instead of one combined course.
A follow-up letter — IBA letter No. SB/MAR/BC/1306, dated 02.08.2024 — reinforced RBI’s instruction that every Business Correspondent must complete IIBF’s BC certification within 9 months of starting operations.
Basic vs Advanced Certification: Which One Do You Need?
You don’t pick a level at random — it depends on the kind of BC work you actually do.
- Basic Certification is for BC Agents who handle only simple transactions — payment transactions, cash-in/cash-out, and remittances.
- Advanced Certification is for BC Agents acting as full-fledged BCs, covering every activity the regulator prescribes from time to time.
Two things worth knowing:
- The two levels are independent of each other — you don’t have to pass Basic before attempting Advanced.
- If you’ve already cleared Advanced, you don’t need to sit for Basic separately.

Do You Actually Need the Training? (The April 2024 Cut-off)
This trips up a lot of candidates, so here’s the clarification straight from IIBF:
- Started as a BC on or after 1 April 2024? The training specified in the 05.01.2024 letter is mandatory before you can sit for certification.
- Started before 1 April 2024 and haven’t passed certification yet? You’re required to complete certification as per the revised syllabus. (If you were exempted from training, you’ll upload your Bank BC ID number and card instead of training documents — more on that below.)

How to Register: Three Ways to Apply
1. Individual Registration Through the IIBF Website
Registration windows and exam dates are updated on the IIBF site, and the exam is usually held once a month. You choose your own centre and language.
- Bank employees with Ordinary Membership: apply here

Your admit card becomes available for download (using your registration number) one week before the exam, showing your venue and time.
2. Individual Registration Through Your Nearest CSC Centre
Visit a CSC centre to register — the CSC selects your exam centre from the available venue list. These exams run Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays), and you choose your own date, time, and language at registration. Your admit card is emailed to your registered address once registration is confirmed.
3. Hybrid Mode (Through Your Bank)
If your bank registered you, collect your admit letter from the bank’s Single Point of Contact, following your bank’s process.
Documents You’ll Need at Registration
If you’ve completed the mandatory training:
- Recent passport-size photograph
- Signature
- Valid identity proof (Aadhaar / PAN / Driving Licence / Bank ID)
- Educational qualification certificate
If you were appointed as a BC before 1 April 2024 and are exempt from training: upload your Bank BC ID number and Bank BC ID card instead.

The Training ID — And What If You Don’t Get One
Once you finish training, IIBF issues a Training ID — a unique alphanumeric code you’ll need to register for the exam. You’ll receive it by SMS and email shortly after your training ends.
If you never received it, want to check the training schedule, or spot an error in your profile — contact your training institution first, not IIBF directly.
Choosing — and Not Changing — Your Exam Details
- CSC candidates pick their date, centre, and time slot at registration.
- Centre-based (IIBF website) candidates get a pre-decided date — usually the first Saturday of the month — with venue and time confirmed on the admit card, available a week before the exam.
- Once a centre is selected or allotted, it cannot be changed.
- The exam date also cannot be changed. Rescheduling is only possible for technical issues at the centre itself.
- Payment options: debit/credit card, UPI, or net banking. Failed payments are typically refunded within 2–3 working days.
- Seeing “already applied for exam”? It usually means your previous attempt’s result hasn’t been declared yet — you can only reapply after that.
- Seeing “exam not activated”? The registration window simply isn’t open yet — check the current schedule on the IIBF site.
- CSC centres may charge up to ₹30 as an additional registration service fee — nothing more. Report any centre demanding extra charges directly to IIBF.
On Exam Day: What to Carry (and What Gets You Turned Away)
Bring:
- Admit card (hard copy)
- Original identity proof (any one OVD) — a physical copy only; a photo on your phone will not be accepted
You could be refused entry if:

- Provisional scorecard — shown on screen immediately after you finish the exam. CSC candidates can also collect it from their CSC in-charge; centre-based candidates can download it from the IIBF website 4–5 working days later.
- Result — generally declared 20–25 days after the exam date. If you registered through the website, you can download your marksheet once results are out.
- Certificate — the digitally signed certificate is emailed to your registered ID roughly 30–45 days after results are declared.
Make sure the email you register with is valid and has enough storage — every notification, including your certificate, lands there.

Re-attempts, Re-training & the 9-Month/3-Attempt Rule
