YSR Jala Kala Scheme: Free Borewells for Andhra Pradesh Farmers (Now Discontinued)
Water scarcity has long held back farming in Andhra Pradesh. The YSR Jala Kala Scheme offered farmers free borewell drilling, motor pump sets, installation accessories and electricity connections. It is no longer running, so this post explains what it was and where farmers can look now.
The scheme has been discontinued. Applications are no longer being accepted. Farmers who want similar benefits, including free borewell drilling and eligible pump-set support, can ask their village secretariat about the NTR Jala Siri Scheme and confirm the current application status, eligibility and benefits.
What was the scheme?
YSR Jala Kala, also called the “YSR Jala Kala – Free Borewells Programme”, was launched on 28 September 2020 by the Andhra Pradesh Government. The Department of Panchayati Raj & Rural Development was the nodal department. It was one of the nine programmes under the state’s Navaratnalu. Its objective was to solve water scarcity for agriculture and irrigation.

After either route:
- The Village Revenue Officer verified the application in the field.
- It went to the Assistant Project Director for further scrutiny.
- Approved farmers were told by SMS.
- A drilling contractor was assigned for the survey and drilling.
