Uttarakhand Hamara Ped Hamara Dhan Yojana: Earn ₹300 Per Surviving Plant

What if planting trees on your own land could also put money in your pocket? That is the idea behind the Uttarakhand Hamara Ped Hamara Dhan Yojana, which means “Our Tree, Our Wealth.” The scheme rewards private landowners for planting and protecting trees. This guide explains the benefits, eligibility, documents, how to apply and how the payment works.

What Is the Scheme?

The Forest Department of Uttarakhand launched the scheme in the financial year 2014–15. It encourages residents to plant fuelwood, fodder, fruit and timber species on their private land, increase the state’s green cover, and link conservation with direct economic benefit.

Instead of relying only on forest land for plantation, the government involves private landholders and farmers, and gives them a financial reason to protect each sapling until it survives.

How the Incentive Works

The ₹300 per plant is not paid in cash straight away. Here is how it works:

  1. The Forest Department creates a Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR) of ₹300 for every eligible plant.
  2. The FDR is pledged in the name of the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO).
  3. After three years, a joint team inspects the plantation.
  4. You receive the secured amount based on the number of plants that are healthy and alive.

Since one applicant or family can claim up to 100 plants a year, the maximum FDR value is ₹30,000 per year, subject to plant survival.

Key Benefits

  • ₹300 per plant: An FDR is created for every eligible plant.
  • Survival-based release: The amount is paid after three years, depending on how many plants survive.
  • Up to 100 plants a year: Maximum FDR value of ₹30,000 per year.
  • Wide choice of species: Fuelwood, fodder, fruit-bearing and timber species qualify.
  • Concessional saplings: Buy saplings at lower rates from Forest Department nurseries, Horticulture Department nurseries, or registered women’s and farmers’ nurseries.
  • Technical support: The Forest Department offers guidance on planting.
  • A lasting asset: The trees stay with you as a source of fuel, fodder, fruit and timber.

Who Is Eligible?

  • The applicant must be a resident of Uttarakhand.
  • The applicant must own private land or be a joint landholder (joint khatedar).
  • There is no minimum land area requirement.
  • The incentive applies to a maximum of 100 plants per applicant or family per year.

Since the scheme is for private landowners, a person without land cannot apply.

Final Thoughts

Hamara Ped Hamara Dhan Yojana turns tree planting into a long-term investment: you plant, you protect, and three years later you are paid for every healthy tree. Keep in mind that the ₹300 per plant is paid only for surviving plants, so choose suitable species and look after your saplings well.
