Rajasthan Chief Minister Higher Education Scholarship: ₹5,000 a Year for Meritorious Students
Finishing Class 12 with good marks is an achievement, but paying for college can still be a struggle for many families in Rajasthan. The Chief Minister Higher Education Scholarship Scheme (Mukhyamantri Uchch Shiksha Chhatravriti Yojana) is meant to help talented students from low-income families continue their studies after school.
What the scheme is
It is a merit-based scholarship of the Government of Rajasthan for students pursuing higher education after Class 12. The Higher Education Department runs it, and it is implemented through the Commissionerate of College Education, Rajasthan.
What students receive
A regular student gets ₹500 per month for up to 10 months, which comes to a maximum of ₹5,000 per year. Students with a disability of 40% or more get ₹1,000 per month for up to 10 months, so up to ₹10,000 per year. The department pays the scholarship on an annual basis.
A student can receive the scholarship for up to 5 years in a higher education institution. If a student leaves studies earlier, the benefit stays valid only for the years already completed. Students who got the scholarship last year can continue to receive it if they keep studying regularly, so the scheme takes both fresh and renewal applications. The 2026-27 state budget targets one lakh students. There is no application fee.
Who is eligible
A student must meet all of these conditions:
- Be a native (mool niwasi) of Rajasthan.
- Pass Class 12 from RBSE, Ajmer in the same year with at least 60% marks.
- Secure a place within the first one lakh in the Board’s merit list.
- Have a parent or guardian whose annual income does not exceed ₹2.50 lakh.
- Study regularly in a government or recognised non-government higher or technical institution in Rajasthan.
- Not receive any other scholarship or similar benefit from the Government of India or the State Government.
- Hold a savings account in a nationalised bank, an Aadhaar card, and a Jan Aadhaar card (earlier called the Bhamashah card).
The 40% disability certificate, issued by the Medical Board of the Medical Department, applies only to students applying under the divyang category.
Documents to keep ready
Keep your RBSE Class 12 marksheet or result details, your parents’ or guardian’s income certificate (up to ₹2.50 lakh), Aadhaar card, Jan Aadhaar card, nationalised bank account details, Rajasthan domicile or native details, caste or category details where applicable, and a mobile number updated in Jan Aadhaar. Divyang students also need a self-attested copy of the 40% disability certificate. Everyone needs an affidavit saying they are not availing any other scholarship; the format is on the department’s scholarship portal.
How to apply
The whole process is online, and applications are made through the SSO Rajasthan portal. Before you start, update your caste, domicile, bank account and mobile number in your Jan Aadhaar.
Visit the SSO Rajasthan portal and log in with your SSO ID and password. If you do not have one, register first using your Jan Aadhaar or another option on the portal. Go to the scholarship section and choose Scholarship (CE), then select the Rajasthan Chief Minister Higher Education Scholarship Scheme. Enter your Jan Aadhaar number and check the details that are fetched. Fill in your Class 12 details, current college and course, income and bank details. Upload the documents the portal asks for, including the disability certificate if you apply under that category. Review the form carefully, submit it, and save or print the submitted application.
What happens after you submit
The head of your institution matches your uploaded documents with the originals. The institution then forwards the application online to the District Nodal Officer by the fixed date, and the department sanctions the scholarship for eligible students. One warning: if an application is rejected because of a mistake or missing information in the online form, the student is held responsible, so fill in every detail with care.
The deadline matters
A notification dated 28 September 2026 opened the scholarship portal for 2026-27. Students can apply online from 1 October 2026 to 30 November 2026. As of today, 8 November, the window is open, and a little over three weeks remain. If you are eligible, do not wait until the last days, since portals tend to slow down near deadlines and your college also needs time to verify your documents.
Other schemes for Rajasthan students
The state runs other student schemes too. The Swami Vivekananda Scholarship for Academic Excellence gives financial aid for higher studies in top Indian and foreign universities, and the Kali Bai Bhil Medhavi Chhatra Scooty Yojana offers free scooties or equivalent assistance to meritorious girl students.
Where to ask for help
You can call the Higher Education Department, Rajasthan helpline at 0141-2706106 or write to dce.oap@gmail.com. Use only the official SSO Rajasthan portal and department links when you apply.
Questions the source does not fully answer
The source material lists, but does not answer, whether semester-system students count as regular students, and whether this scholarship can be combined with another one. On the second point, the eligibility rules say a student must not receive any other scholarship or similar benefit, which suggests it cannot. For the first, ask your college or the helpline.
