What is this scheme?

This is the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) for Wards of States/UTs Police Personnel Martyred During Terror/Naxal Attacks, a merit-based scholarship funded through the National Defence Fund. The original PMSS began in 2006-07. On 31 May 2019, the Government extended it to dependent wards of State/UT Police personnel martyred in terror or Naxal attacks, effective from the 2019-20 academic year.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) runs it through its Resettlement and Welfare Directorate, and the Welfare and Rehabilitation Board (WARB) processes applications. The aim is to help these children pursue higher professional and technical education without excessive financial difficulty.
