Odisha Commercial Layer Farming Scheme
Odisha produces fewer eggs than it consumes. The state makes about 1.12 crore eggs a day, and per capita availability is around 87 eggs a year against the national average of 106. The Odisha Commercial Layer Farming Scheme (Odia: Byabasayika Andadia Kukudapalana Yojana) of the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development (FARD) Department is meant to close that gap by encouraging large, modern, fully automated layer and pullet farms. It was formally launched on 9 October 2026, World Egg Day, by FARD Minister Shri Gokulananda Mallik at the Veterinary Training Institute, Bhubaneswar.
Latest Update
The scheme is at the announcement stage. The FARD Department has not yet published the detailed operational guidelines, so the application process, eligibility details, and document list are not yet available. Applicant category, age limit, land requirements, and bank loan conditions are also unpublished.
Scheme at a Glance
- Support: Up to ₹10 crore per eligible project
- Target projects: Modern, fully automated commercial layer and pullet farms with more than 25,000 birds, in Odisha
- Goal: 1,000 crore eggs a year by 2036
- Model: Credit-linked and project-based. The entrepreneur plans the farm and arranges a bank loan, and the government shares part of the capital cost.
Key Benefits
- Up to ₹10 crore in government assistance, as stated on the official department poster
- A much higher ceiling: Large layer farms could earlier get only up to ₹1 crore under the Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyog Yojana (MKUY), so the limit is raised tenfold
- Advance subsidy: Media reports say part of the subsidy will come in advance through a “Mirror Account” linked to the bank loan, reducing the interest burden
- Support for modern technology: automated feeding, watering, egg collection, and climate-controlled housing
- Business opportunity in a sector where local demand exceeds local supply
Who May Be Eligible?
Only these conditions are known so far:
- The applicant must set up a modern, fully automated commercial layer or pullet farm
- The farm must have a capacity of more than 25,000 birds
- The farm must be in Odisha
A small poultry farmer with a few thousand birds would not meet the stated capacity condition. Everything else is awaiting official guidelines.
Documents Required
No official document list has been published. Don’t rely on unofficial checklists shared on social media.
